Salam Aleykoum, when we own a piece of clothing that we love, we want to take care of it so that it lasts a long time.
However, it's not always easy because the way you wash your clothes will depend on several things, particularly the fabric!
A natural fabric will not wash in the same way as a fabric made from synthetic fibers, for example.
Let's start by differentiating the types of fabrics that you can find in our oummimuslim.com store.
THE WHOOL PEACH ROYAL
This fabric is made in Egypt and is soft, lightweight, and flowing. This fabric is widely used for making abayas, jilbabs, khimars, kimonos, and outfits for Muslim women.
It has a “peach skin” effect to the touch. Egyptian royal peach whool is very easy to maintain, crease-resistant, and will only take a short time if you follow our recommendations:
- Machine wash at 40 degrees
- Tumble drying is possible, but prefer to dry on a hanger in the open air so that the fabric is completely wrinkle-free once dry! (No need to iron!!)
As you will have understood, peach whool is easy to maintain, it is a fabric that does not fade when washed. You will therefore be able to enjoy your Abayas for many years!
MEDINA SILK
Medina silk fabric has become popular in Turkey and has invaded Europe in recent years! It is very high quality because its fiber contains elastane, which gives it a more elastic side than other fabrics on the market. It is ideal for making hijabs, abayas, khimars, jilbabs, and covering kimonos.
This sublime fabric has a very fluid drape and a silky feel. Just like peach whool, it is easy to care for. Here are our care tips for Medina Silk fabric:
- Machine wash at 40 degrees
- We recommend air drying on a hanger whenever possible. This way, you won't need to iron your Medina Silk garment as it will already be naturally wrinkle-free.
NATURAL LINEN
As its name suggests, natural linen is a fabric made from 100% natural fibers. You may not have known this, but it is a thermoregulating fabric. Thanks to its natural, breathable fibers, it retains heat when it's cold and will keep you cool when it's hot!
Natural linen pieces can therefore be worn all year round. In addition to this advantage, it is a very durable textile fiber! Unlike cotton or wool, it will not lose its shape or fluff, but on the contrary, it will become more beautiful and softer over time!
This is one of our favorite fabrics because it's also hypoallergenic thanks to its absorbent properties. It dries very quickly and doesn't allow sweat or moisture to settle in. So you can wear this fabric without fear of allergies or irritation!
To take care of it and maintain it properly, you will need to be vigilant:
- Machine wash on gentle “care” cycle or hand wash
- Wash in cold water (below 30 degrees)
- GENTLE spin or by hand, in order to preserve as much as possible and avoid “breaking” the fabric fibers
- Iron or steam iron once dry.
